When we would talk to the kids while we were in Chicago, they told us that Brandon wasn't sleeping in his own room (that's been going on awhile) and that Amanda had been sleeping in there a couple of nights.
So, we decided we should maybe do the switcheroo! At first, I said we weren't going to repaint the rooms, but then I thought it would be nice not to have to paint once we finish the basement and move them downstairs. It will be quick, right? Just pick the paint color and get going!
Well, first we switched the beds/mattresses and Mike put the bunkbeds back up. This time Sydney gets the top bunk! She has been a trooper and is doing well having to share with her baby brother. They actually chat and giggle and have a good time together.
Amanda's bed in the 'boy' themed room...
Brandon's bed in the 'girl' themed room....
So, then we took everything off the walls, switched closets and took off the vinyl lettering. Sydney stayed home one day (sick? maybe she just missed me) and helped me get everything off the walls...
Next, Amanda and I patched the nicks in the walls, picked a paint color and taped up the baseboards and then moved the contents of her closet into the dining room. It was going to be temporary after all. It was all ready to paint by Saturday. Mike and I got busy and got a first coat done. I had to run back and buy another gallon of paint so we could get the one coat done. Then, the next morning we looked at it and realized we had gotten the wrong sheen. Our house is done in eggshell, and we bought semi-gloss. Ugh!
So, now the project is not so quick! We have been busy the last couple of Saturdays, Mike got the full on flu and was down flat for awhile and so we haven't purchased 'de-glosser' or sanded or purchased new paint. I did paint the closet with the semi-gloss gallon we had left. That project took me a couple of days, but we finally were able to move her things out of the dining room. With another weekend come and busily gone, I finally pulled up all the plastic, put the painting stuff in the basement and moved her furniture back into a more functional position. She has been cute and patient and I told her we could do the painting after Christmas-before New Years, when there is no piano lessons, no ballet, no school, no schedules, no Christmas stuff to get done...Funny how you think things are going take a shorter time than they always do!
In the meantime, Brandon lost another tooth! First upper one....he wiggled that thing until it was flapping in the breeze! Finally, he let me pull it out!
