For a couple of years we have been trying to find a competition basketball team for Brandon to play on. Around here, it's not like you go to a club and 'try-out'....at least it hasn't been. You have to know someone on a team, or put a team of your own together and then enter the 'session' of basketball in a city. Crazy. Well, then we got a flyer home from school one day saying there would be try-outs for Hard Knox basketball club. Thank the Heavens!
He's wanted to play basketball for soooo long! So, we tried out and he was put on a 4th grade team. There are two teams for 4th grade. After a few weeks of practicing, Brandon was moved to the 'higher' team. He loves it! Really nice boys and a great coach! These pictures are from his first game. I need to take my camera for the next game and update a few. This league is year round, but they let him take time off (and the monthly fee off) for football season! Couldn't have worked out any better!
They have lost almost every game! But, the boys aren't upset about it at all. They just love to play basketball! They did win one game in a tournament. And then, on last Saturday they won their first regular session game!! YAY!
I was getting so nervous when I realized they might win! Sweaty palms...everything! So crazy! The funniest thing after the game was that Brandon came running over to us not excited about winning the game, but to tell us that Coach Ben from his first year of football was here! Ben is a former lineman and super good with kids. Brandon loves him and we love him and his family, too. His son played up a year, so we probably won't get Ben as a coach before, but we are so grateful for the positive influence he had on Brandon. As I talked to his wife, I told her I thought that was amazing that even though this is the first game Brandon's team has won, he was most excited that he got to see and talk to Coach Ben!
We love watching B play. He has gone from never playing a game to being a force to be reckoned with in the paint! He's setting picks and getting rebounds. It's so much fun to see him progress!
